The quest for the left hand Explorer guitar...
|

Gibson Studio Explorer
|
There once was a limited run of Gibson USA Explorers from around 1983 through 1988. This is second hand information since I've never actually owned a left hand Gibson Explorer so I'm unsure of the accuracy. I am certain however that there are used a few USA made left hand Explorers out there in limited supply and high demand.
If you can add any facts to our site, including production amounts, or Explorer history regarding the 80's release in left hand models, send us an email! We would also be interested in any other information about left hand Explorer shaped guitars from other manufacturers.
If you happen to be a current owner of a rare left hand Gibson Explorer please don't be shy! Click here and help us out by uploading a picture! We are also interested in pictures of any other brands of left hand Explorers either American made or imported.

I should mention that I took the time to contact Gibson recently and I was told that the demand for left hand guitars is generally very low, therefore there were no plans in the immediate future to produce the Explorer in a left hand version. It would require complete re-tooling of their production line which makes it impractical for them to devote their resources to producing left hand guitars.
Just how many left hand guitarists are interested in owning an Explorer? Why don't we find out... I'd like to start a basic petition to submit to Gibson with names of perspective Explorer buyers. Maybe if we could drum up enough names to send in to Gibson USA, they would consider a short term run of left hand Explorer guitars. Left hand guitarists only please, sign our petition here!
However, until Gibson changes their mind, left hand guitarists can still own a Explorer type guitar available from other guitar manufacturers. Gaskell produces the Gaskell Classic in various colors and SX produces an Explorer style guitar in left hand called the GG2 which is available in black and maroon only.
UPDATE: I have purchased a Gaskell guitar and done an in-depth review for left hand guitar players who are interested in non-Gibson Explorers.
